Synopsis
Production key info / links
Following the success of Saved last October, the Lyric presents the UK premiere of Edward Bond's The Chair Plays.
‘Compulsively watchable.’ **** Guardian
‘Compelling.’ WhatsOnStage
Domestic family life struggles to survive in a world of fleeing refugees, mass suicides, ruined and deserted suburbs and soldiers patrolling the streets. Authority decrees even the exact placing of furniture in rooms. How can we still be human in a society where even the offer of a chair to a tired stranger can lead to catastrophe?
‘Timothy O’Hara manages to mingle childish emotion with mature perceptiveness.’ The Public Reviews
‘Naomi Frederick’s Welfare Officer provides some bleak, bitter humour.’ The Stage
Chair will be directed by the playwright himself.
You can also see a special triple bill featuring Have I None, The Under Room and Chair on Saturday 19 and 26 May 6pm. Click here to book.
You can watch a documentary on Edward Bond, created by our Resident Assistant Director here.
