'Alan Cumming is superb. Book now.'
**** Evening Standard
Direct from its Edinburgh International Festival world premiere, The Bacchae comes to the Lyric starring Tony award-winner Alan Cumming (Cabaret, Bent) as the magnetic young Dionysus – icon, hedonist, god.
In the wildest of all Greek tragedies, Dionysus returns home with his cult of female followers to exact revenge for his mother’s death. Drawing the townswomen under his hypnotic spell, he unleashes the full force of female sexuality on the city.
With a powerful chorus of singers and movement by Frantic Assembly’s Steven Hoggett, David Greig’s thrilling new modern language interpretation is brought to the stage by National Theatre of Scotland’s celebrated director, John Tiffany (Black Watch).
