What We Do
The Lyric is a theatre that celebrates the theatrical. With two spaces, a 550-seat 19th century classical auditorium and a 110-seat studio, we have worked in recent years with some of theatre’s most groundbreaking artists to take theatre in new and bold directions.
With a diverse and modern audience, the Lyric has a collaborative approach to making theatre involving writers and directors, actors and composers, puppeteers and video makers, clowns and choreographers to explore theatrical forms from all over the world.
As part of this vision, the Lyric has a unique working relationship with Fuel, an innovative producing organisation that develops, creates and presents new work with some of the most exciting theatre makers in the UK.
The Lyric also has a groundbreaking artist development programme called theMIX. Supported by Deutsche Bank, the programme allows a new generation of artists and companies to develop and create new work at the Lyric.
In addition to the Lyric’s theatre programme in the Main House and Studio, the Lyric hosts Music Nights and Comedy Nights each season, taking advantage of the crystal-clear acoustics and intimate atmosphere of the Main House.
We also have a full programme of engaging and interactive theatre for children from 3 months old including regular shows every Saturday and longer runs during school holidays.
Alongside our work on stage, we run a pioneering programme of Creative Learning activities that give over 10,000 young people a year access to high quality arts provision to develop their creative and personal skills and gain qualifications. The programme includes talks, workshops and teacher-training for schools and colleges throughout London, and a strand of activities for 11 to 19 year olds of all backgrounds who live or go to school in West London – the largest of which is the Lyric Young Company.
The Lyric’s programme is divided into five strands:
Main House
Studio
Music & Comedy
Lyric Children
